Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) is a whole school framework which assists schools to create positive learning environments. Merri River School is proud to be a SWPBS learning environment. This means that we actively teach positive social behaviours across the school for all students.
SWPBS is an evidence-based framework that is proven to;
- Improve pro-social behaviour
- Increase positive emotional regulation
- Improve academic achievement
- Reduce behaviours of concern
- Build a school wide positive culture
Our school values guide the behaviour of everyone in our school; staff, students, parents and community members. Our values are;
- Be a Learner
- Be Respectful
- Be Safe
- Be Responsible
Our school Behaviour Matrix (hyperlink matrix) identifies specific behaviours under those values that are explicitly taught and rewarded for.
Our staff are becoming highly skilled in supporting students to know and practice positive behaviours and are committed to developing each child’s individual learning goals.
There is a dedicated PBS team appointed in the school which consists of administrative staff, classroom teachers and therapists. However, the entire staff at Merri River School are committed and involved in the design and implementation of PBS.
